A new yoga studio is set to open Monday in downtown New Canaan.

Yoga Utopia (here on Instagram) at 33 East Ave. is a “holistic, self care wellness studio,” owner Lena Booth told NewCanaanite.com.

“It is an inclusive place for all to go and enjoy the practice of yoga,” Booth said in an email. “The studio also includes classes in guided meditation, mat pilates, moon circles, sound baths, reiki, body massage, drumming, healing circles, gentle stretch and more.”

The space on East Avenue had been occupied previously by Posh, a high-end consignment shop. In New Canaan, Yoga Utopia joins a handful of popular yoga and wellness studios including Sama Yoga on Grove Street, Kaia Yoga on Park Street and Forme Barre Fitness on Elm Street.

Asked why she chose to open in New Canaan, Booth said, “This studio is great for the town of New Canaan because unlike other exclusive fitness studios, Yoga Utopia serves all people in the community. Not just the fitness fanatics, ‘Stay at home moms’ or advanced Yogis. The studio is beautifully decorated, clean and modern with an open floor plan. The owner ensures their offerings can be customized to suit all ages and stages of life. Teachers will instruct classes for children, college students, young entrepreneurs, mothers and fathers and the older-aged grandparents, too.”

The studio will be “a safe space where one can go to relax, renew, unwind and regenerate,” Booth said.

She continued: “Anyone can find their own peace and happiness behind the walls of YU. It is a welcoming “‘home away from home’ for those dealing with anxiety, grief, loss, daily stress, injuries, mental illness, disconnection and/or ‘empty nest’ syndrome. Fellow neighbors can connect with other like minded individuals that want to better themselves and be part of a greater good. Yoga Utopia studio is built on trust, equality, acceptance, self respect, health and wellness with universal love for all who enter. The goal is for everyone to feel uplifted and enlightened during their self care routine at this magical oasis right here in the heart of New Canaan.”

The first class at Yoga Utopia is free for new students. It’s open 9:30 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 9 and 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 11.
