Co-Occurring Disorder Awareness (COD)
The New Canaan Parent Support Group, in partnership with the New Canaan YMCA, invites you to hear Stephanie Marquesano talk about Co-Occurring Disorder Awareness (CODA). Her organization, the harris project, is focused on raising widespread awareness and transforming our national perception and management of COD. The meeting will take place in the Wagner Room, and will start promptly at 7PM.

Pathway Series: Opioids Today, Benzos Tomorrow
The New Canaan Parent Support Group, in partnership with the New Canaan Y, is hosting the second in a series of Pathway Sessions on addiction- and mental health-related topics. This month, we have John Hamilton, LMFT, Mountainside who will speak to benzodiazepines, or benzos. Benzos are a type of medications known as tranquilizers, that are easy to abuse. For instance, mixing a benzodiazepine drug like Xanax with alcohol can be fatal.

Is My Loved One Addicted?

Pathway Session: Why Recovery Coaching Works
Recovery Coaching is an important tool in the "continuum of care" approach for treating and recovering from addiction. Michael Askew, of the Connecticut Community for Addiction Recovery (CCAR), will describe how coaches are trained and certified. Pathway: Alternatives to Opioids for Pain
Orthopedic surgeon Paul Sethi will address how patients are minimizing or eliminating the use of opioids following major surgery. This is the final 2019 session of the Pathway Series, educational offerings held at the New Canaan Y covering substance use and mental health related topics. Dr. Sethi will discuss his views on current pain management practices, and also research being funded through the ONS Foundation.
