The 6’4”, 275- to 280-pound offensive lineman joins the Battling Bishops under head coach Tom Watts after a middle-of-the-pack finish in Division III’s North Coast Athletic Conference.

Asked by NewCanaanite.com to talk about how his experience as a football player here in New Canaan helped create a foundation for him, Alex said: “Man, I have been through a lot with those guys they taught me everything, they’re the reason why I am the person [I am] today. I was taught to never give up, to work harder than anybody else, and I did. Once I got more of a leadership role on the field, I started to get more looks than I did my senior year. The coaching staff at New Canaan deserves a lot of credit for making me the best me.”

Said Laura Sigg of her son’s decision: “Chris and I are very excited for him. He truly deserves it as he has worked very hard training to become physically stronger, academically successful and personally focused.”

Sigg heads to the Delaware, Ohio-based university following a post-grad year at Wilbraham, MA-based Wilbraham & Monson Academy—a period that Laura describes as “perfect” for her son: “It opened up many options for him for school and to continue to play football.”

Sigg said he had many offers — “mostly in the Northeast, some D2 some D3.”

“Though when [an] Ohio Wesleyan recruiter came to the school I was interested because I love Ohio,” he told NewCanaanite.com. “I’m an Ohio State guy, and I’m 20 minutes away from that campus. Their football team is good and the alumni there are making sure that they keep a winning program. I visited there and I loved it—the people, the campus. Everything there was awesome and a great education as well.”

Laura also credited Marinelli and the New Canaan High School Rams football program for Alex’s success.

“The program at New Canaan is like no other and Coach Marinelli is the driving force which motivates these kids to become the best they can be,” she said.

Ohio Wesleyan opens its 2014 campaign Sept. 6 against the Bluffton Beavers. Very best of luck to Alex and the Siggs in this next important phase of life, school and of course, football.
