Monarch butterfly expert is Men’s Club speaker

October 18 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am

Former New Canaan resident Gary Liska, an expert on the Monarch butterfly, will describe what makes it unique among insects and what is leading to its approaching designation as an “endangered species,” at the New Canaan Men’s Club meeting Friday, Oct. 18, to be held at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 111 Oenoke Ridge.
With a degree in Health Sciences, Liska has been studying the Monarch butterfly for more than 40 years. The butterfly is known for being able to navigate from coastal Connecticut to Mexico. Currently, he is engaged in three university studies on the health issues affecting Monarchs.
The Men’s Club meeting will begin at 10 a.m. with Liska beginning his remarks around 10:40 a.m.
Along with his scientific interest, he also is the founder and owner of Monarch Butterfly Food and Fuel Gardens Co., located in Pennsylvania.
Liska, a New Canaan resident for 22 years, is a member of the New Canaan Sports Hall of Fame.
The club has openings for new members. To get information about joining, email ncmens@ncmens.info.
