Police last week arrested a 55-year-old Newtown man and charged him with driving under the influence.
At about 10:07 p.m. on Dec. 4 (a Wednesday), officers were dispatched to Old Stamford and Farm Roads on a report of a single-car crash into a utility pole, police said.
Arriving officers found that a vehicle traveling northbound on Old Stamford Road had left the roadway, striking a utility pole along the northbound lane, according to a police report.
Officers identified the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, and smelled alcohol on the man while speaking to him, the report said.
After conducting field sobriety tests, police arrested the man on the misdemeanor charge and transported him to headquarters for processing, it said.
There, he refused a breath test to establish his blood-alcohol level.
The man was additionally cited for failure to drive in the proper lane.
He was held on $300 bond and scheduled to appear the following day (Dec. 5) in state Superior Court.
He has not yet pleaded, according to Connecticut Judicial Branch records, and now is scheduled for arraignment Feb. 18, released on a promise to appear.
