Police last week arrested a 41-year-old New Canaan man and charged him with driving under the influence.

At about 12:36 a.m. on Dec. 19, an officer on patrol stopped to check on a car that had stopped along Oenoke Ridge, according to a police report.

The driver told the officer that the ‘check engine’ light had come on while he was driving, the report said.

In talking to the man, the officer smelled alcohol and noticed other signs of impairment, it said.

After conducting field sobriety tests, the officer at 12:55 a.m. charged the man with the misdemeanor offense and took him to police headquarters, it said.

There, the man provided two breath samples that established his blood-alcohol level at .1354 and .1316, both more than half again as high as the legal limit of .08.

He was released on $300 bond and scheduled to appear Jan. 2 in state Superior Court.
