Police on Saturday arrested a 40-year-old Stamford man and charged him with impersonation of a police officer.

At about 4:28 p.m. on Jan. 11, an officer on patrol stopped a car at Morse Court downtown because it had an obstructed license plate, according to a police report.

The driver displayed a Stamford Police officer badge and said that he used to be a cop in Stamford and was in the process of transferring, the report said.

An investigation showed that he was no longer employed by the Stamford Police Department, it said.

Police transferred him to headquarters for processing.

In his mugshot, the man is wearing a T-shirt that says ‘Spread Cheeks. Not Hate.’

He was released after promising to appear Jan. 24 in state Superior Court.
