Dry Martini Clothing, a Manhattan-based women’s fashion brand known for its luxury fabrics and sharp New York aesthetic, is opening its second physical location at 70 Elm St. in New Canaan on Sept. 12, company officials say.
The brand was founded by designer Sarah Miller, who said the concept begun from a simple vision.
“I wanted to create clothes that feel alluring without being revealing,” Miller told NewCanaanite.com. “Creating timeless pieces designed to slip effortlessly into a woman’s existing wardrobe — like a great martini, deceptively simple, beautifully balanced.”
The store carries two Manhattan-made collections. The first focuses on signature silhouettes in luxury fabrics designed to flatter. The second is a limited edition line where, as Miller put it, “beautiful fabrics and a little New York glamour get to misbehave.”
Miller said she designs for a specific kind of customer.
“I design for people who share my love of feminine, timeless style with a sharp New York edge and a touch of romance,” she said. “Sensual without being obvious, polished without being prim, and always dressed to be noticed rather than merely seen.”
Every piece is designed in-house around the natural female silhouette, Miller said, using drape, proportion, exceptional fabrics and New York craftsmanship.
“Confidence looks good on everyone,” she said. “We just make it easier to wear.”
Dry Martini’s first location is at Grand Central Station in Manhattan, with the brand also selling online. New Canaan is its second physical store.
Miller said the decision to open on Elm Street came from an existing Connecticut following and a belief that the community was the right fit for the brand’s next chapter.
“Dry Martini is as much about community as craftsmanship, and with an existing Connecticut following, Elm Street felt like exactly the right place to build our next chapter,” she said.
The September 12 opening will include personalized color readings, refreshments, gift bags and what Miller called “a classic Dry Martini welcome.” Inside, customers can expect 1930s jazz, sumptuous fabrics and an experience Miller said she designed to be memorable.
“I want clients to fall in love with dressing up again in sumptuous fabrics, enjoying 1930s jazz and experience that delicious moment when the mirror gives something back,” she said.
Her message to New Canaan ahead of the opening was simple.
“Come curious, try something unexpected and let us show you what all the fuss is about,” she said.
As for where the brand is headed, Miller is thinking big.
“Endless wardrobes, multiple cities, and countless women feeling extraordinary around the globe,” she said. “New Canaan gets to share in the fun with our new Connecticut chapter.”
