New Canaan Public Schools Closed Thursday Due to Hazardous Driving Conditions; Town Under Winter Weather Advisory

More

New Canaan Public Schools are closed Thursday as the town is under an urgent winter weather advisory, with snow and sleet expected to create hazardous driving conditions for the morning.

The National Weather Service’s advisory is in effect from 4 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, and residents should “plan on slippery road conditions,” the NWS said.

“The hazardous conditions could impact the Thursday morning commute,” according to the weather service.

The advisory continued: “Be prepared for slippery roads. Slow down and use caution while driving. If you are going outside, watch your first few steps taken on stairs, sidewalks, and driveways. These surfaces could be icy and slippery, increasing your risk of a fall and injury.”

The advisory applies to southern Fairfield County among other regions.

New Canaan Library is on a delayed opening to at least 1 p.m., and possibly later depending on conditions in the morning. The New Canaanite monthly Community Coffee has been postponed to next week (Feb. 13).

The New Canaan YMCA will have a delayed opening of 12 p.m. Thursday.
