Firefighters responded to the Louise’s Lane fire at 8 p.m. and found that it was “burning between the ceiling and roof on the second floor,” according to a press release issued by Fire Chief Albe Bassett.

“The fire was initially difficult to access because of a 20-foot ceiling height,” Bassett said. “Firefighters used ladders and long pike poles inside the home to remove the sheetrock on the ceiling, accessing the fire, and applying water for extinguishment.”

Multiple crews rotated into the structure to bring the fire under control, he said. NCFD was on scene for about two-and-a-half hours fighting the blaze.

Water used to extinguish it was accessed from a neighbor’s pool, Bassett said.

“The fire is being investigated by the fire marshal but was likely caused by a fire in the chimney that produced embers that landed on the roof,” Bassett said. “The occupants were alerted by an odor of burning and their smoke detectors activating soon after. No injuries were reported.”

NCFD thanked several agencies that assisted in fighting the fire, including firefighters from Vista, South Salem and Pound Ridge, N.Y., Noroton Heights, Norwalk and Wilton.

“Residents should have their chimney cleaned every year and place ashes in a metal can away from the structure,” Bassett said.
