Police arrested a 38-year-old Bridgeport man by warrant on Jan. 13 in connection with a motor vehicle break-in and burglary at Locust Avenue lot in September 2013.
Police identified the man, who has a history of felony and other arrests going back 10 years, by taking DNA and fingerprints from the site of the theft. On the morning of Sept. 30, 2013, the owner of a 2010 Ford E350 found his vehicle’s windows smashed, ignition tampered with and power tools stolen—an estimated $9,700 in damage, according to police.
The victim, 49, also found a pair of brown canvas shoes had been left behind and a pair of Merrells stolen, police said. The shoes were used to gather DNA and New Canaan Police investigators also found fingerprints in the car.
When DNA and fingerprint results came back, investigators matched them up with a man arrested by Trumbull Police on third-degree burglary charges (a felony) last summer in connection with a November 2013 incident.
New Canaan Police charged him with third-degree burglary, third-degree criminal mischief, second-degree larceny, third-degree larceny and tampering with a motor vehicle.
His bond was set at $35,000 and, already in custody, he appeared in court Jan. 13 for the New Canaan charges.
