New Canaan High School softball stars Molly and Rachel Keshin committed to play for the University of Virginia, NewCanaanite.com learned on Tuesday. The twin sisters, currently juniors at NCHS, project to be the first Division 1 softball players in program history provided the commitment—a verbal agreement between school and player—holds up.
Given the on and off-field performance of the twins, there’s no reason to believe that it won’t.

Molly Keshin, New Canaan’s starting catcher for the past two season, led New Canaan with a .491 batting average as a sophomore in 2015 with team highs in both runs batted in (20) and runs scored (24). She also hit seven triples, tying former New Canaan great Cydney Ventura’s school record, set back in 2012. Keshin played fantastic defense for the Rams at catcher, committing just two errors en route to a .986 fielding percentage. She was an All-FCIAC Second Team selection at the end of last season.

Twin sister Rachel has started at shortstop for the Rams since her freshman year. Last season she was New Canaan’s leadoff hitter, rapping out a team-high 32 hits, the fifth-highest single season total in school history. She was second on the team in batting average, hitting .457 with 19 runs scored and nine runs batted in. Keshin also struck out just five times in 74 plate appearances. Like her sister, Keshin also earned All-FCIAC Second Team honors as a sophomore.
Both girls are high honors students at New Canaan High School and passed admissions into UVA, a member of the NCAA’s Atlantic Coast Conference.
With most of their starters returning this spring, head coach Danielle Simoneau’s Rams figure to improve on last season’s 7-13 season, as New Canaan fell just one win short of making the state playoffs.
