On May 5, the Canaan Parish chapter of National Charity League gathered at the Roger Sherman Inn to celebrate a successful year of volunteering, leadership, learning and connection. In addition to the awards ceremony, graduating seniors were recognized for their exemplary service over the past six years.

The Ethics Board during its regular meeting Tuesday voted unanimously regarding a recently received complaint that “no probable cause exists to warrant an investigation,” Chair Alexander Saffi said. It wasn’t clear what the complaint alleged. The appointed body discussed the matter in executive session (and also held its vote in executive session, though Saffi did note the 5-0 vote in the public session). “Therefore we will not be pursuing this matter any further,” he said at the meeting, held at Town Hall.

Police at 1:29 p.m. Monday received a report of a dog vs. bobcat fight on Carter Street. The dog chased the bobcat into the woods, where the dog was bit and ran back to its owner, police said.

A coyote bit a dog on Greenley Road at 10:06 a.m. on June 4, and then ran off, police said.

Congratulations to the winners of Student Civics Essay Awards (pictured at left), honored Monday following a contest hosted by New Canaan Library in partnership with Vote New Canaan, the youth initiative from the New Canaan League of Women Voters. The awards are $300, $200 and $100, underwritten by the League.

Alison Jacobson, Chapter N, and Charlotte Lee, NCHS Class of 2026

Congratulations to Charlotte Lee on receiving a STAR Scholarship from the P.E.O. Sisterhood, Chapter N in New Canaan. Lee will attend MIT to double major in math and political science, and hopes to eventually go to law school and pursue a career in government. At NCHS, she served as student body vice president, varsity field hockey captain and raised more than $20,000 for blood cancer research.
