Walter Stewart’s Market and Stewarts Spirits both have power, and officials are letting motor vehicles through the portion of Elm Street that had been closed earlier, so both shops are open as usual.

Power has been completely restored in New Canaan.

Power has been restored to all but 130 New Canaan customers, or about 2 percent of the town, according to Eversource.

Nine percent of New Canaan lost power Saturday morning as an electrical problem forced emergency responders to close part of Elm Street.

Police and firefighters were called to the area of 229 Elm St. at about 7 a.m. on a report of a problem with electrical wires in the area, officials said.
Electricity appears to have burned through a utility pole and the surrounding area is without power—in all, 766 Eversource customers lost power, according to the company.

Eversource was on the scene as of about 8 a.m., along with police and fire officials. Elm Street is blocked to motor vehicle traffic roughly between Park and Grove Streets.
It wasn’t immediately clear what caused the problem, when power would be restored or when the road would be reopened.
Doug Stewart of Walter Stewart’s Market said the grocery store and Stewarts Spirits wine shop are in a “wait and see” pattern while officials work to restore power and reopen the road.
“Hopefully today,” he said.
