In the version that aired during NBC New York’s 5:30 p.m. broadcast, the reporter actually said: “Authorities say they will be watching. Good dog owners say they will too, to make sure their park stays number one despite the problem with number two.”

The Roger Sherman Inn on Wednesday applied for a building permit to remodel about 1,600 square feet of its interior space. Here’s how the Oenoke Ridge Road restaurant described the work in its application: “Wall removals to provide open seating. Three dining rooms will be converted to possible one space for banquet usage. French doors added to allow access to deck. Existing porch will be extended decking to back and sides of existing structure.”

Former FBI Director James Comey’s book, “A Higher Loyalty,” appears to be in high demand at New Canaan Library. Two days after its Tuesday publication, a search of the library’s website showed 16 holds on four initial copies of the print book, in addition to seven holds on an e-book and two on an e-audiobook version.

Congratulations to East School third-grader Lillian Kanter, 8, on winning 6th place for skier cross in the nation for Grommet Girls on April 10 in Copper Mountain, Col. Lillian was ranked first in the Catskill Mountain region and represented the region there. Her “home mountain” is in Windham, N.Y.

The town on April 4 received an application to demolish a barn at 183 West Road. The application noted that a new barn—no plumbing, just electrical inside—is planned for the same footprint.

New Canaan Police last week issued three citations for possession of marijuana:
- 18-year-old New Canaan woman cited at 1:12 a.m. on April 14 after an officer stopped her for running a stop sign at Farm and Old Norwalk Roads;
- 27-year-old Norwalk woman cited at 4:15 p.m. on April 14 after an officer stopped the driver of the car where she was a passenger on Lakeview Avenue for not wearing a seatbelt;
- 30-year-old New Canaan man cited at 2:11 a.m. on April 15 after an officer stopped his car for running a light while exiting the off-ramp of the Merritt Parkway at Exit 38.

Congratulations to Saxe Middle School sixth-grader Sumner Orr, who earned first place overall at the 2018 Snowboard Nationals held this month in Copper Mountain, Col. He’s the top snowboard rider for his age group in the nation, after competing in all five events at nationals (half pipe, giant slalom, slalom, boarder cross and slope style). He races for Okemo Mountain Snowboard Team in the Southern Vermont series of the United States of America Snowboard and Freeski Association.

David Gusitsch will take over as principal of Saxe Middle School, following the retirement of Greg Macedo after this academic year following 25 years in the job. An assistant principal, Gusitsch had been an educator in the Westport public schools before New Canaan.
He earned a bachelor’s degree from Central Connecticut State University and a master’s degree from Western Illinois University, according to the district. He also holds an Educational Leadership degree from Sacred Heart University.

St. Luke’s School students at 9:45 a.m. Friday will conduct a walkout in conjunction with the March For Our Lives movement. Led by the St. Luke’s Student Diversity Leadership Council, the students have organized a protest “to stand in solidarity with victims of gun violence while also asking Congress to pass common-sense gun legislation, such as universal, comprehensive background checks, bringing the ATF into the 21st century with a digitized, searchable database, allocating funds to the Centers for Disease Control [and Prevention] to research the gun violence epidemic in America, banning high-capacity magazines and assault weapons, and to start an intersectional and inclusive dialogue about this issue in our community,” organizers say.
