Police on Friday night arrested a 22-year-old Gerdes Road man and charged him with first-degree criminal trespass.
At about 8:40 p.m. on Sept. 30, officers were dispatched to New Canaan High School on a report of the man being on school grounds in violation of a request by school officials, police said.
The man was seen at Dunning Stadium at a Rams football game, according to a police report.
Under state law, a person is guilty of first-degree criminal trespass if he or she “enters or remains in a building or any other premises after an order to leave or not to enter personally communicated to such person by the owner of the premises or other authorized person,” among other reasons.
Police took the man into custody on the misdemeanor charge.
According to Connecticut Judicial Branch records, he had been arrested Sept. 13 by New Canaan Police and charged with interfering as well as a number of motor vehicle-related offenses.
After Friday’s football game, NCHS Principal Bill Egan emailed families saying: “This evening near halftime of the football game, the school and NCPS [New Canaan Public Schools] became aware that an adult who was not allowed on school grounds was in attendance. He was quickly located and escorted from the stadium by the police. This did draw student and crowd attention, if your child reports this to you or you saw something about it on social media. However, no one was ever in any danger. We want to thank our partners in the NCPS for responding quickly.”
It isn’t clear why the man isn’t allowed on school grounds.
Police released the man on $1,000 bond and scheduled him to appear Oct. 13 in state Superior Court.
