Police last week arrested a 64-year-old New York City woman by warrant and charged her with first-degree identity theft and third-degree larceny, both felony offenses, as well as seven counts of third-degree forgery.
The charges stem from a forged check investigation first reported to authorities in December, according to police.
The New Canaan Police Department went to Rikers Island jail to take custody of the woman.
Under state law, a person is guilty of first-degree ID theft if he or she steals at least $10,000 from someone younger than 60 or $5,000 from someone 60-plus.
According to Connecticut Judicial Branch records, the same woman was charged last week by Greenwich Police with second-degree identity theft, fifth-degree larceny and third-degree forgery, and also was charged by Wilton Police with second-degree identity theft, second-degree forgery, three counts of criminal impersonation, three counts of third-degree forgery and three counts of fourth-degree larceny.
She’s being held on $50,000 bond and is scheduled to appear Sept. 25.
