Let’s all support Dionna Carlson for First Selectman. A proven, balanced leader, she has the character, competence and vision New Canaan needs to keep us one of the most wonderful and welcoming towns anywhere. Dionna is the only candidate who has been consistently chosen by her peers to lead. Her record of successful, inclusive chairwomanship of our Board of Education is impressive, as is her leadership of many civic and charitable groups. You want listening skills? Consensus-based solutions? A ‘Can Do’ attitude? A demonstrated ability to manage huge budgets, union contracts, complex logistics and many constituencies? Dionna has it all, and she alone has shown it. Her professional background in finance and housing are valuable as well. But beyond these capabilities, Dionna’s wide community involvement and fundamental kindness demonstrate wisdom and fairness, and it is these characteristics that our town needs and deserves – today more than ever. Please join me and so many others in supporting Dionna Carlson for First Selectman on Row B. She has safe hands New Canaan can trust.

I’m writing this letter in support of Amy Murphy Carroll for First Select. As a registered Unaffiliated voter who leans right, I normally vote Republican at the top of the ticket. But this election is different. I believe that Amy Murphy Carroll is uniquely qualified to be our next First Select. Having just retired from a 30-year career in municipal finance (most recently as JP Morgan’s lead analyst for the state of CT and all CT municipalities), Amy has an unparalleled understanding of how municipalities work. But as importantly, Amy understands New Canaan. As a 27-year resident who has volunteered for numerous town committees, school committees and sports teams, she knows all aspects of what makes New Canaan such a special place. And most recently, her 10 years on New Canaan’s Board of Finance has given Amy an insider’s view on the needs of the community. I can’t think of anyone in New Canaan who has more municipal finance qualifications than Amy. But equally as important is the person. I’ve known Amy for over 20 years. She’s an excellent listener, will be completely transparent and open with her views, and most importantly wants to be fully inclusive with all members of the community. Amy doesn’t care what political party you belong to. She just wants to work with the best people with the right skills to address the needs of New Canaan. For all these reasons I hope you will join me in voting for Amy Murphy Carroll in November.

I agree with those supporting Dionna Carlson for First Selectman. Volunteering for help lead New Canaan during these contentious times takes courage and sacrifice. But local government is where 90 percent of our democracy takes place. I have had the privilege of representing New Canaan in both the State House of Representatives and the State Senate over many years. During that time, I worked closely with its town leaders and Dionna Carlson as the New Canaan’s Board of Education Chair.
I can attest to her excellent leadership skills, dedication to the town and collaborative, respectful treatment of her colleagues. She has helped New Canaan Schools retain its number one status as the best school system in Connecticut and among the best in the country. She was there to help us fight against school regionalization and we won. It would be a pleasure to have the chance to work together again for the betterment of our towns.
You need someone with Dionna Carlson’s commonsense and experience involved in government. She has always shown herself to be trustworthy, calm, fair and always conducts herself in a respectful and civil manner. The town is fortunate that she is stepping up to serve once again.
Please vote for Dionna as your next First Selectman on November 7 to keep New Canaan moving in a positive direction.
