Police on Saturday arrested a 34-year-old Bridgeport man and charged him with interfering with an officer.
At about 4:40 p.m. on Jan. 6, an officer on patrol stopped a car on South Avenue because it wasn’t registered, according to a police report.
The officer identified the driver through records checks, the report said.
Under state law, a person is guilty of interfering with an officer if he or she “obstructs, resists, hinders or endangers any peace officer or firefighter in the performance of such peace officer’s or firefighter’s duties.”
It wasn’t clear whether the driver gave police a false name, leading to the interfering charge.
Police transported him to headquarters for processing on the misdemeanor charge. They additionally cited him for operating an unregistered motor vehicle, operation of a motor vehicle without a license and illegal operation of a motor vehicle without minimum insurance.
He was released after promising to appear Jan. 18 in state Superior Court.
