Leanne Spletzer, 87

Leanne Spletzer passed away peacefully on June 30, 2026 at the age of 87, leaving behind a devoted husband, a family who loved her deeply, and countless friends and colleagues whose lives sparkled brighter with her love of good food and good times together. Born on August 28, 1938 in Chicago, Illinois to Anne and Allen Carlson, Leanne grew close with her sister, Ardeth Devlin, and in high school met the love of her life, Raymond Spletzer. After their first hang-out at the bowling alley (thanks to Leanne’s co-editor of the newspaper introducing them), Ray came over to Leanne’s house for an official first date. It was at that time that Ray met Leanne’s dad, sledgehammer in hand! Allen may have been joking – and he was working on the fireplace at the time – though we all know Leanne’s dad and then Ray loved to protect her.

To the Editor:

On behalf of The Glass House, I want to thank the New Canaan community for making our 2026 Summer Party, held on June 6, such a tremendous success. It was a perfect early-summer day — sunny, warm, and made for being outdoors — and it was wonderful to see so many neighbors and friends turn out to enjoy the site. We were honored to welcome guests for an afternoon of art, conversation, and discovery across the property, including performances curated by Solange Knowles and her team at Saint Heron, featuring choreographer Kyle Abraham and dancers performed by Alysia Johnson and Catherine Kirk with music by Standing On The Corner, vocalist Malcolm Merriweather and Voices of Harlem: Marlaina Owens, Lucia Bradford, and Angelo Johnson, and pianist Artina McCain. It was a rare and moving combination of historic architecture and contemporary artistry.
