Barbara Anne Miller passed away peacefully on July 20, 2026, at the age of 86, surrounded by her loving family.

Barbara Miller
Barbara was born on July 1, 1940, at Leonard Hospital in Troy, NY to Benjamin and Mary Elizabeth Manso and was raised in Mechanicville, New York. As the oldest of seven children, she was much more than a big sister; she was a loving guide whose wisdom, generosity, and support helped shape the lives of her six younger siblings. She was predeceased by her parents; her sister, Margaret DeChiro; and her brother, Francis Manso. While attending the University at Albany, Barbara was selected to the court of the 1961 Tulip Festival in Albany, NY.
Barbara shared a devoted 48-year marriage with the love of her life, Joseph Harold Miller. Together they built a home centered on faith, family, and unconditional love. Joe passed away in 2011, and in a remarkable reflection of their enduring love, Barbara was called home on the very same date, July 20.
After beginning their married life in Scranton, Pennsylvania, Barbara and Joe raised their family while living in Allentown, Pennsylvania; Los Angeles, California; and Dallas, Texas, before settling in New Canaan, Connecticut, in 1978, where Barbara remained for the rest of her life.
Barbara’s greatest joy and proudest accomplishment was her family. She is survived by her five children: Joseph Miller and his wife, Judy; Meghan Lambert and her husband, Barry; Chris Miller; Beth MacInnes; and Allison Lesson and her husband, Mark. She is also survived by her sisters, Patrice Smith and her husband, Tom; Mary Beth Wnorowski and her husband, Daniel; Kathleen Buckley and her husband, Dennis; and her brother, Paul Manso.
Known lovingly as “Mimi” to her grandchildren, Barbara treasured every moment with her 19 grandchildren: Jake, Cassie, Elizabeth, Zach, Archie, Georgia, Gus, Poppy, Nick, Will, Coco, Caroline, Jack, Whitney, Shelby, Peyton, Sam, Bebe, and Ruby. She was also blessed with five beautiful great-grandchildren, each of whom brought her immense pride. Nothing made her happier than having her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren together. She set high expectations, believed deeply in the value of hard work, loved her family without question, and was the steady force that held generations together.
Barbara lived her Catholic faith every day. Together with Joe, she built a marriage rooted in love and was strengthened by their unwavering devotion to the Catholic Church. She and Joe served the American Association Sovereign Military Order of Malta as a Dame and Knight, reflecting her lifelong commitment to faith, service, and caring for others. Together, they led countless trips for the Order of Malta International Pilgrimage to Lourdes, an annual spiritual mission that brings thousands of sick and disabled individuals to Lourdes, France.
Barbara was one of those people who left an impression. She was strong, funny, fiercely loyal, and never afraid to say exactly what she thought. Her laugh wasn’t loud, but it was unmistakable. Hearing it, or being lucky enough to make her laugh, was a blessing because it was completely genuine. She treasured her friendships and loved her friends deeply, and they knew it. A friend described Barbara as graciously hospitable, a thoughtful advisor, a confidant, and an extraordinary example of service to the poor and defender of the faith.
Barbara’s family will miss her deeply, but they find comfort knowing she is reunited with Joe in heaven. Her faith, strength, honesty, humor, and devotion to family will continue to live on through the generations she loved so dearly.
If you knew Barbara well, you knew you were loved.
