Ivan Zoltan Szanto, 100

Ivan Zoltan Szanto, a resident of The Inn in New Canaan, passed away April 19th. 

Ivan was born in Budapest, Hungary on July 25th, 1925. Ivan grew up with his mother Margit, father Istvan, sister Martha, brother Oskar, and grandmother. He attended school and learned about the family business at the Dairy plant. Ivan was forcibly conscripted into military service for the 2nd Hungarian Army in 1942 and his battalion was promptly sent to the front at the Battle of Stalingrad. After the collapse of the invasion, he was taken prisoner by the Red Army.

Robert H. Bayne III, 59

Robert H. Bayne III, known to all as Bob, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Sunday, March 29, at the age of 59. Born on March 27, 1967, in Stamford, CT, Bob was the beloved son of Robert H. Bayne, Jr. and Carol Bayne of Silvermine, CT, and Berkeley Bayne Ake and Philip Ake of New Canaan, CT and Church Hill, MD. He grew up in Darien, CT where he formed lifelong friendships and a deep love for family and community. Bob attended local schools in Darien and later graduated from the Marvelwood School in Kent, CT. where he was elected Senior Class President.

Nancy McDonnell Zeitler, 79

Nancy McDonnell Zeitler, of Jamestown, Rhode Island, died on Saturday, April 11, with her family by her side. She was 79 years old. She had struggled with lung cancer for the last 7 years, but in the end, her death came suddenly. Nancy was born in Carbondale, Pennsylvania; her parents were Anita (Tinman) McDonnell and James Francis McDonnell. She spent many of her early years in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and she graduated from Marywood College in Scranton, with a degree in mathematics.

David Francis Whelen, 83

David Francis Whelen, age 83, passed away on November 21, 2025, after a long and courageous struggle with dementia. Born on February 11, 1942, in Milford, Massachusetts, David was the son of James Whelen and Catherine Dillon Whelen. He grew up in Milford and graduated from Milford High School. He was a resident of Darien, Connecticut, for 53 years. David continued his education at Bates College, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree, and later received his MBA from Columbia University.

‘Grampy’ Sullivan, 79

Grampy Sullivan, 79, grandfather to Virginia, Phoebe and Astrid Sullivan, died on Easter, after spending four days with his family. For the past 17 years, Grampy split his time between his condo in Agawam, Mass., and his son and daughter-in-law’s home in New Canaan. While his death was sudden, his last day was exactly what he would have wanted. He went to Easter Mass in St. A’s with his oldest granddaughter.
