After deciding in May to market this year’s Family Fourth as “New Canaan residents only” and then twice postponing the Waveny picnic and fireworks, officials finally announced this week that the event is canceled. They cited the pandemic and weather. It’s unclear how many passes were sold.

Two condos at The Vue, the new residential complex formerly known as Merritt Village, have sold for $2,450,000 and $1,775,000, according to property transfers recorded las week in the Town Clerk’s office.

New Canaan’s Metro-North Railroad line will return to nearly full service starting Aug. 29, according to elected, MTA and Connecticut Department of Transportation officials who gathered Monday at the train station to make the announcement.

1980 New Canaan High School graduate Bobby Troup through his company, Embrace Life, has created what he’s calling a “COVID-19 vaccinated bracelet.” “It’s a product that offers a solution to the confusion around how to interact with others in the age of COVID,” he told NewCanaanite.com. “It’s a statement of asserting one’s pride regarding getting vaccinated.” A percentage of sales is going to nonprofit organizations assisting those affected by the virus. The New Canaan Farmers Market is celebrating Julia Child’s birthday on Saturday, with two special events for aspiring chefs and fans a Julia “lookalike” contest at 11 a.m. and Julia’s Birthday Hat contest with homemade decorations at 12 p.m. The Farmers Market is held 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays in the Lumberyard Lot by the train station.

The Board of Selectmen during its Aug. 3 meeting appointed John Fusek to the Conservation Commission for a term ending Dec. 1. A former board member and treasurer of the New Canaan Land Trust, Fusek has lived here since 2004 and holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a MBA from Columbia University, according to a bio included in the public meeting packet.

Finally, congratulations to New Canaan YMCA Caimans swimmer Kalen Anbar on earning the High Point Award for the 15-18 boys team at the Last Splash swim meet, held July 28 to 31 in Orlando, Florida. The High Point award honors the swimmer who accumulates the highest total points within a specific gender and age group at each swim meet. He also qualified for the Senior National Championship in addition to earning second place in the 400-meter Individual Medley and third place in the 200-meter breaststroke with times of 4:30.62 and 2:21.30 respectively; the qualifying times were 4:33.09 and 2:23.29. The rising junior finished the Last Splash Meet earning third place in the 200-meter breaststroke, fourth place in the 200-meter IM, fifth place in the 100-meter backstroke, as well as placing top 16 in the 50-meter breaststroke, 100-meter backstroke and 100-meter breaststroke.
