The New Canaan Building Department on May 19 received an application for $600,000 worth of interior work at 105 Elm St., future home of Blackbird restaurant. It will include a “main dining room and bar area, rear dining area and two bathrooms” in the 1,770-square-foot street level space located between The Playhouse and Solé, the application said. The contractor on the job is Wedge Construction of Stamford, it said.

Swimmers and triathletes, there’s still time to sign up: Starting Monday, June 5, highly respected former New Canaan Y swim coach Rich Ludemann—an NCAA Divisions 1 and 2 coach who has placed athletes on World Championship, National and Olympic Teams, along with NCAA, Senior and Junior National scorers—will run morning workouts at a 25-meter, six-lane outdoor pool facility minutes off of the Merritt Parkway. The program is designed to serve everyone from Masters swimmers who love the sport, to triathletes looking to improve the first leg of their events, to high school and college swimmers seeking to stay in shape this summer without the pressures of competition. New Canaan 11u Travel Baseball, which participated in a food drive at Walter Stewart’s Market.
Despite heavy rain showers, members of the New Canaan 11u Travel Baseball team last Saturday participated in a food drive at Walter Stewart’s Market to help support and raise donations for the New Covenant Center in Stamford. Close to $1,000 in cash donations and hundreds of food items were collected and donated to the New Covenant Center to help support their mission to provide basic living items and services to those in need as they serve over 300 healthy, hot and nutritious meals daily. More than 1,150 individuals receive 10 days/three meals a day worth of groceries each month from the food pantry.
