New Canaan Police are investigating the theft of a purse with debit and credit cards from a vehicle parked at Waveny. A suspect entered the car by forcing entry through a door lock, police said. It was reported at 12:55 p.m. on Oct. 25.

New Canaan attorney and baseball historian/lecturer Kelley Franco Throop will be joined by New York Mets legend Ron Darling and public relations director for Major League Baseball, Bob Wirz, for “Baseball: Stories & History of America’s Favorite Pastime.” The panel discussion will be held 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 5 at the Norwalk Public Library, 10 Washington Street, South Norwalk, CT. New Canaan historian Jim Bach presents “American Betrayal—The Story of Benedict Arnold” at 3 p.m. Sunday at the New Canaan Museum & Historical Society. A video recording of Bach’s lecture will be played followed by a live Q&A with the historian.

Congratulations to That Personal Touch at 102 Main St. on marking its 40th anniversary this weekend (Nov. 4). They’re marking the occasion by welcoming the community into the gift shop for coffee and cookies. They specialize in engraving on all types of gifts, carrying frames, clocks, jewelry, cutting boards and baby gifts. That Personal Touch also offers leather monogramming, crystal and laser engraving all done on the premises.

The Veterans Day banners—a 2019 Eagle Scout project by New Canaan’s Jack Goetz—are once again up on lampposts downtown. The effort is now being coordinated by Joelle Graham and Amy Plum, who are thanking our local VFW Post 653 as well as the New Canaan Exchange Club for continuing to generously support this project. Speaking of NCHS, the Service League of Boys or “SLOBs” kicked off its activities for the 2023-24 school year. The largest NCHS club, SLOBs packs weekend food for school children in need, helps senior citizens, plays sports with differently-abled kids, plants bulbs in Mead Park and more.  New members and other interested students are invited to learn more about the club at the next general meeting Saturday, November 11th at 2:30 pm in the high school cafeteria. New Canaan Cub Scout Packs 7 and 45 held their Fall Camporee Oct. 28 and 29 at Hoyt Scout Camp in Redding. It was the first overnight camping trip for many of the youth and organizers say “they had a great time and enjoyed numerous activities including hiking, arts and crafts, games, skill and team building events, a camp-in movie, camping meals, and of course a campfire with s’mores.” If your child is interested in Cub Scout Pack 7 or Pack 45 you can reach out to Pack 7 at cubmaster@ncpack7.com or cubmaster@ncpack45.com. Meeting every Tuesday morning during the year at Lapham Center, the “Crafty Tuesday ladies have completed 510 handmade ornaments. There are five designs and roughly 100 of each design of these limited edition ornaments that are collectible and raise funds for the New Canaan Museum & Historical Society. The designs for this year are: the Train Station, the New Canaan Library, Bristow Bird Sanctuary at 100 years, Playhouse also celebrating 100 years and Summer Theatre of New Canaan, celebrating 20 years. Ornaments will be at the Farmers Holiday Market Nov. 18, and at Walter Stewart’s Market through the holidays, and NCM&HS, 203-966-1776. The ornaments are on sale now through the holidays. They are $25 each. The committee that makes them is headed by Faith Kerchoff and Tracey Karl, and includes Sharon Johson, Gunilla Lawrie, Charill Pierce, Yvonne Hunkeler, Karen Portanova, Rosa Palladino, Judy Wiley, Cindy Tye, Sue Benko, Anna Krolikowski, Tucker Murphy and Toni-Ann Vittoria.
