An online fundraiser for the Stamford teen found dead in New Canaan last week has netted more than $12,000. That’s the amount needed to return Santos Perez to his native Guatemala and cover funeral expenses, the GoFundMe campaign said.

New Canaan saw 25 doubles teams turn out for its first annual Pickleball Championships at Mead Park. Held June 30, the tournament was chaired by Steve O’Connell with support from Assistant Recreation Director Zack Philippas and Kimberly Norton, it drew dozens of spectators. Here are the winners:

Men’s Doubles 

  • GOLD:  Brett Wildman/Ike Groff
  • SILVER: Ron Balzano/Brian O’Hara

CERT New Canaan Board member Kevin McIntosh receives water bottles from Nancy Layman ACME Store supervisor for the 22 CERT volunteers who aided the NCPD at the recent Family 4th celebration in Waveny Park.

The New Canaan Community Emergency Response Team or “CERT” is thanking local store Acme for supplying sandwiches, chips, cookies and pickles. “Acme has been a supporter of the Family 4th event for several years by providing CERT with food and refreshments at this annual event.,” CERT board member Kevin McIntosh said in an email.
