The town on Monday received a notice of intent to sue filed on behalf of a woman who said she fell at about 3 p.m. on Dec. 4 (a Wednesday) while walking on Cherry Street near Morse Court because of a “cantilevered and raised and crooked sidewalk due to underground tree roots growing uncontrollably.”

Two Viennese Masses”—from Mozart and Schubert—will be performed at 5 p.m. Saturday at St. Mark’s Episcopalian Church ($30, $35 day of event, $10 students).

Monday’s Board of Education meeting opened with the New Canaan High School Madrigals singing “Needle and Thread” by Jocelyn Hagen. The owners of a River Street dwelling on Monday filed eviction papers against a tenant that they say has failed to pay $1,850 in monthly rent since last fall.

New Canaan Chamber Music’s next concert is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Thursday, March 20 and 7 p.m. on March 21. “The Link from Mozart to Film” features musicians Stella Chen (violin), Geneva Lewis (violin), Matthew Lipman (viola), Ani Aznavoorian (cello) and Andrew Armstrong (piano). Tickets here.

Volunteers from Grace Community Church and Feed My Starving Children at a March 1, 2025 meal-packing event at New Canaan High School.

Grace Community Church last Saturday partnered with Feed My Starving Children to host its annual meal-packing event, bringing together 600 volunteers from the church and local community to help combat global hunger. Held at New Canaan High School, the effort surpassed expectations, with volunteers packing 101,000 meals—exceeding the original goal of 100,000.

Golf balls are available for purchase for the Color Drop at Waveny. The fundraiser for the New Canaan High School Scholarship Foundation will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 22. This year’s grand prize is a red 2025 Chevy Colorado truck. More info here.

The Board of Ed on Monday voted unanimously in favor of holding NCHS graduation at 10:30 a.m. on June 16 (rain date June 17).

Two great shows coming from public schools programs:

  • New Canaan High School’s winter musical is “Les Misérables,” the world’s longest-running musical. Performances will be held at 7 p.m. March 20-22 at 7 PM, with a special matinee at 1 p.m. on March 22. Tickets here.
  • Saxe Middle School presents “The SpongeBob Musical”—performances at 7 p.m. on March 28 and 1 and 5 p.m. on March 29. Tickets here.

New Canaan Police at 12:31 p.m. on Feb. 28 assisted in locating a patient from a lower Valley Road psychiatric hospital who had left campus prior to discharge. East School entered a shelter-in-place mode “out of an abundance of caution” while teaching and programming continued as normal inside the building, the school’s principal and assistant principal wrote to parents. “We appreciate Officer Bentley’s presence and support,” they said in an email, referring to NCPD School Resource Officer Ron Bentley, himself an East School alum.

Representatives from Kids in Crisis—a nonprofit agency serving Fairfield County, helping newborns to age 18 years old with services 24/7—spoke to the New Canaan Rotary Club at its Feb. 29 meeting. “They provide their Teen Talk program at New Canaan High School,” club officials said in a press bulletin. “Last year they had an average of 225 individual students at each school with a Teen Talk program who met with a Teen Talk counselor.”

Following a final performance of “Terra Nova” at 2 p.m. Sunday, the Town Players of New Canaan will run a Actors Workshop (March 25 to May 6) and “Stand-Up Magic” (7 p.m. on April 5).
