The Canaan Parish Chapter of The National Charity League kicked off its new year Aug. 24 with a “Sundaes and Sundresses” ice cream social at Waveny House. It “provided an opportunity for mothers and daughters to play games, socialize and reconnect while enjoying ice cream sundaes,” a press release said. “This year, Canaan Parish’s theme is, ‘Year of the G.I.R.L.,’ chosen to reflect the qualities and traits of the Ticktocker members, as ‘Gifted, Inspiring, Resilient Leaders.’ ”

The New Canaan YMCA recently hosted its annual Grandparents’ Day celebration, with 60 grandparents and grandchildren attending. “Grandparents and their grandchildren celebrated their bond by working on a craft, playing picture bingo, and enjoying special snacks and treats,” a press release said. “The Y thanks all who attended.”

Staff at the Connecticut Freedom of Information Commission found that the town did not violate state law in denying this news outlet’s request for the draft Memorandum of Understanding between the municipality and New Canaan Library in 2021. Issued Thursday, the decision had been delayed by the pandemic. The Commission is scheduled to vote Oct. 8 on the FOI staff’s proposed final decision.

First Presbyterian Church of New Canaan has hired Leah Saulsberry as Sunday School Director. She “brings great warmth and creativity, along with a wealth of experience in childcare and teaching Sunday school,” a press release said. Born and raised in central Illinois, she moved to Woodbridge and attended Amity Regional High School, then earned a bachelor’s degree in Spanish from Fairfield University, with minors in Health Studies, Educational Studies, and Latin American/Caribbean Studies.

Congratulations to New Canaan’s Sophie Seaver, a 10th grader at St. Luke’s School who attended West Elementary School, a finalist in the EveryLife Foundation’s RareArtist competition for a song she submitted called “Another You” (public voting here runs through Tuesday). The program allows people affected by rare disease to tell their stories through art. Seaver’s twin sister, Ella, has a rare genetic condition called MED13L.
