New Canaan Police are investigating the theft of $792.05 in Dove cleaning and Tide detergent products from the CVS downtown, reported at 2:22 p.m. on Sept. 16. Police say they have no suspects at this time.

Tickets are available now for the Third Annual Wine Tasting with Franco’s Wine Merchants at the New Canaan Museum & Historical Society. Scheduled for 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 15, the evening includes “great wine, light hors d’oeuvres and some New Canaan History,” organizers said in a press release, bringing together “an exceptional selection of wines from Italy, France, and the United States for an evening of discovery in the unique setting of the New Canaan Museum.” It’s presented by Franco’s in partnership with importer Kobrand Corporation, and ticket prices as well as a portion of the proceeds from all wine sales during the event will benefit NCM&HS.

The Board of Selectmen on Tuesday voted 3-0 in favor of two hirings—Richard DeLeo as an equipment operator II in the Highway Department and Jack Grace as systems administrator in the Information Technology Department.

Police received two reports of thefts from motor vehicles this week—at 11:14 a.m. Sunday on Colonial Road (wallet taken and debit card used), and 9:34 a.m. Monday on Douglas Road (wallet taken with cash and cards). Both larcenies are under investigation.

Bankwell will host a free Shredding Day at its 156 Cherry St. branch from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday, weather-permitting.

Congratulations to New Canaan’s Jan Schaefer, who last weekend received an annual “Sweet Mother” award from a Norwalk-based nonprofit of the same name that recognizes “the outstanding strength in ordinary mothers” who “within the confines of their homes have been successful in balancing motherhood with their business, their profession and in their community,” according to the organization. Sweet Mother seeks to “transfer the lives of disadvantaged girls and celebrate the outstanding strength of ordinary women,” according to its mission statement. The annual annual Sweet Mother Awards gala honoring a select group of exceptional women from across the nation was held Saturday at The Water’s Edge at Giovanni’s in Darien.

Police are investigating the theft of a vehicle from Kimberly Place, reported at 7:19 a.m. Sunday. They have no suspects. Another vehicle that had been reported stolen from Park Street at 12:31 p.m. on Sept. 18 was recovered in Wallingford, police said.

Congratulations to Kathleen Corbet on being named “2026 Annual Trustee of the Year” by LeadingAge Connecticut & Rhode Island, a membership organization representing more than 178 healthcare agencies “that advance quality, compassionate, innovative, and dignified care,” according to a press release. A former chair of Waveny LifeCare Network’s Board of Directors, Corbet “is recognized for steadfast leadership during and after the COVID-19 pandemic and for philanthropic support that helped establish Waveny’s tuition-free nursing school for certified nursing assistants.”

Police are investigating a report of a laptop stolen from a commercial building at 130 Main St., received at 11:05 a.m. Tuesday.

On the first day of Constitution Week (Sept. 17), representatives from the local DAR chapter—Hannah Benedict Carter—delivered 200 copies of the U.S. Constitution in pamphlet form to students in the AP American History and Civics classes at New Canaan High School, an effort coordinated with educators Christine Goldhawk and Michael Forcucci. HBCC member Sue Socci sponsored the purchase of the pamphlets. “Our HBCC representatives were delighted to meet so many students during our brief visit. For our members, it is especially meaningful to have the opportunity to connect with young people and feel that we are making a positive impact in their lives.” Chapter Regent Maryalice Gelhaus said in a press release.

The selectmen on Tuesday approve a $10,305 contract with Omaha-based Election Systems and Software, LLC for election equipment software. New Canaan has 17 tabulators used for elections, officials said at the Board of Selectmen meeting. The town also has a backup tabulator for each of its six voting districts, they said.

The New Canaan YMCA collected more than 2,000 food items for the New Canaan Food Pantry in its first year as a satellite drop-off location. The “Community Cupboard” at the YMCA provides an easy and convenient way for community members to donate items, which support the 600-plus families who benefit from the Food Pantry annually.
