Police before dawn Sunday arrested a 56-year-old Norwalk man and charged him with driving under the influence.
At about 2:47 a.m. on Aug. 19, an officer on patrol spotted a vehicle traveling southbound on South Avenue with its high beams illuminated as the patrol car approached, according to a police report.
During a subsequent stop, the officer detected signs of impairment in the driver, the report said.
He failed field sobriety tests and was transported to New Canaan Police Department headquarters for processing, it said.
The man declined to submit to a test to determine his blood-alcohol content, police said.
He was additionally cited for failure to drive right, improper turning, no insurance and operating an unregistered motor vehicle.
Police released the man on $250 bond and scheduled him to appear Aug. 29 in state Superior Court in Norwalk.
