Police on Friday evening arrested a 61-year-old Ridgefield man and charged him with driving under the influence.
At about 4:47 p.m. on April 21, an officer on patrol spotted a motorist traveling southbound on Smith Ridge Road attempting to pass a vehicle ahead by pulling into the northbound lane and then quickly returning to the proper lane of travel, according to a police report.
The officer followed the car and clocked it as traveling at 65 mph in a 45 mph zone, the report said.
During a subsequent stop, the officer smelled alcohol on the driver’s breath. He failed field sobriety tests and declined to undergo a blood-alcohol test, the report said.
Police additionally cited the man for improper passing.
He was released on $250 bond and scheduled to appear May 3 in state Superior Court in Norwalk.
