At about 12:45 a.m. on June 10, the New Canaan Fire Department responded to the fire after a 9-1-1 call was placed by a Lambert Road resident who could see it from their house, according to a press release issued by Chief Albe Bassett.
At the Country Club Road home, firefighters found a 10-by-30-foot shed about 1,000 down the driveway that was “fully involved,” Bassett said in the press release.
No one was injured, he said.
“There were no other exposures,” the chief said in the release. “The fire was brought under control in a few minutes with one hose line. A water supply line was laid from the hydrant on Country Club. The property caretaker was on scene.”
It wasn’t immediately clear what caused the blaze. The New Canaan fire marshal is investigating.
Firefighters were delayed getting to the shed by a closed gate at the end of the driveway, Bassett said.
In case of an emergency, residents should call 9-1-1 immediately to help “ensure the fire department has access to the property,” Bassett said.
“Residents can provide an access code to driveway gates by creating an account in Community Connect,” the chief said. “In addition to gate codes residents can put vital information, such as your family’s meeting place, if there are any family members that need special assistance, or if there are pets in the house. The firefighters will see this information while responding to the incident and allow us to work more efficiently to protect your life and property.”
NCFD received assistance from Wilton Fire, Norwalk Fire, New Canaan Police and New Canaan CERT, the chief said.
“The assistance is always appreciated,” he said.
