At 6:45 p.m. on May 11, the New Canaan Fire Department responded to a residential fire alarm at 124 Lukes Wood Road, according to a press release issued by NCFD.

“Upon arrival New Canaan firefighters found a fire in a three-car garage under the structure,” the release said.

While NCFD was on scene, an occupant of the home arrived and said that there were pets inside though no people, it said.

New Canaan firefighters put out the garage fire with a hose line and “assisted the occupants with removing the pets,” it said.

The fire damaged the inside of the garage and a vehicle there, while the interior of the home had minor smoke damage, officials said.

It’s unclear what caused the fire. The incident is under investigation.

The Pound Ridge, N.Y. and Norwalk Fire Departments assisted on-scene, officials said.

“Although the occupants were not home when the fire started, properly working smoke and carbon monoxide detectors transmitted the alarm to an alarm monitoring company that dispatched the Fire Department within minutes of detecting the problem,” the release said. “A code-compliant, properly working fire door between the garage and the kitchen limited the potential for interior fire damage.”
