Police on Thursday evening arrested a 27-year-old former New Canaan man by warrant in connection with a pre-dawn drunk driving crash from two months ago.

At about 3:22 a.m. on April 23, a Sunday, officers were dispatched to a single-car crash on West Road near Lost District Drive, where the vehicle had rolled over and was unoccupied, according to a police report.

Arriving, police did not find the operator at the scene, but nearly two miles away, walking in the 1800 block of Ponus Ridge and still a good hike from his home on Four Winds Lane, the report said.

They detected the odor of alcohol on his breath and detected signs of intoxication in the man, now a Southport resident, according to the report.

Due to the extent of damage to his vehicle, the New Canaan Volunteer Ambulance Corps took the young man to the Norwalk Hospital Emergency Room to determine whether he had been injured, it said.

A subsequent investigation found that the motorist’s blood-alcohol content was .20, or 2.5 times the legal limit, the report said.

Police obtained a warrant and charged him with driving under the influence and evading responsibility, and cited the man for failure to drive right, as well.

He turned himself in to police at 5:35 p.m. on June 20. He was released on $10,000 bond and scheduled to appear June 30 in state Superior Court in Norwalk.
