A local insurance company is stepping up to help sponsor an Oct. 1 community event to benefit a special nonprofit organization.
JMG Insurance Corp is sponsoring the Fire Department for the 2023 New Canaan Combine, benefiting the Gracie Fund for Pediatric Cancer. Created by New Canaan’s Falsetta family—here’s an interview with dad Chris about the effort— the Gracie Fund is named for the Falsettas’ 12-year-old daughter who was diagnosed with leukemia last year and is undergoing treatments. The Combine—organized by House of Telos owner Rebecca Kimball, a 2004 New Canaan High School graduate (podcast here)—is a fun athletic competition between the New Canaan Police and Fire Departments that also brings in community members to fundraise for a good cause.
We put some questions to the company’s Francesca Forlivio.
Here’s our exchange.

New Canaanite: I see from the JMG Insurance Corp. website that the company has been around for more than 100 years. For our readers who may not know, please tell us a little bit about the agency—what’s your history and what types of insurance do you offer?
Francesca Forlivio: We offer Property, Casualty, Life and Health Insurance in all 50 U.S. states with over 200 insurance companies appointed. Our family became involved with JMG in the 1980’s and our principal, John O. Forlivio, purchased the agency in 1999 from his predecessor. Our primary office is in South Norwalk, and we love getting involved with our local communities as a business and as a local family.
I see under JMG’s “Community Outreach” tab that the company supports dozens of nonprofit organizations. What are JMG’s connections to New Canaan?
Our principal, John O. Forlivio, grew up in New Canaan. He and his father were both involved with the fire department for many years. The town and the department hold a special place in our family’s hearts.
How did you hear about the Combine and the Gracie Fund for Pediatric Cancer?
A friend in town made an introduction to Chris and his family’s stored moved us beyond words. It was an easy decision to get involved!
What made JMG want to become the Fire Team Sponsor for the Combine?
JMG is family-owned by the Forlivio family and our principal, John O. Forlivio, grew up in New Canaan volunteering alongside his father at the New Canaan Fire Department.
What else would you like to say about JMG’s participation in the Combine as a sponsor or about the fundraiser itself?
We are thrilled to be involved in supporting a tight-knit family and community!
Thank you, Francesca, for your kindness and generosity. This will be an amazing event, in part because of you and your family.
Thanks for stepping up to support a vital cause and setting an example for others to contribute! I’m looking forward to participating at the Combine – although I may be looking more forward to after it so I can resume my weekend routine food crawls around NC. For some reason sandwiches and gelato don’t provide sufficient nutrition for grueling training sessions.
