Katherine McIntosh Heyn passed away on April 20, 2025.

Katie Heyn
The second child and eldest daughter of William McIntosh and Joan Burris Heyn, she was born on July 4, 1973 in Evanston, Illinois. Katie’s birth on Independence Day was always a source of fun for the Heyn family, with the exception of her earliest years when her older brother could not understand why he didn’t get fireworks and a town-wide party for his birthday.
Katie moved from Winnetka, Illinois to New Canaan in 1978 with her family. She graduated from West School and Saxe Middle School. Katie loved ice hockey growing up and played on the very first girl’s hockey team at the New Canaan Winter Club. She attended New Canaan High School from 1987-1990 where she was a standout athlete winning varsity letters in both lacrosse and field hockey. Katie transferred to St. Luke’s School for her senior year, where she also led the varsity lacrosse and field hockey teams, and graduated in 1991. After high school, Katie attended Lafayette College, where she majored in economics and business and was a member of Pi Beta Phi, graduating in 1995.
After college, Katie worked as an Assistant Vice President in Sales and Trading at Smith Barney in New York City. After leaving Smith Barney, she decided to relocate to Del Ray Beach, Florida where she worked for the finance department of MarineMax and then as a loan officer at Citibank. She later moved back to Connecticut to be closer with family.
Her family remembers Katie as a kind, fun, smart, adventurous, daring, optimistic, curious, strong, courageous, brave, tough and a hopeful person who was taken from them far too early. Katie was always on the lookout for the next adventure and she loved skiing, tennis, boating, traveling, the beach, the ocean and bungee jumping until she became too ill in her long and determined fight with cancer. As she slowed down, she never lost her love of new things and ideas, focusing later on learning to cook, crafting and making pickles at home. She always loved time with her nieces and nephews, spending countless hours working on arts and crafts projects with them.
Katie is survived by mother Joan Burris Heyn; her three siblings William Burris (Therese) Heyn of New Canaan, CT, Anne Heyn (Jean-Marc) Pelletier of East Longmeadow, MA and Edward Burris Heyn of Fairfield, CT; and her nieces and nephews William Albers, Charlotte Marie and Thomas Burris Heyn, Jane McIntosh and John Heyn Pelletier and Edward Case, Mary Dives and Jean McIntosh Heyn. She is predeceased by her father, William McIntosh Heyn.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests that friends consider donations in Katie’s memory be made to Ann’s Place (www.annsplace.org).
I am saddened by the Heyn Family’s loss. My thought go out to them all.
