Editor, New Canaanite:
Independent voters can make the difference in this election, but only if you vote. You have shown that you are above party politics by remaining unaffiliated, now demonstrate your judgment by voting for Kit Devereaux for First Selectman.
This intensely contested election has brought calls by Republicans to abandon party politics and vote for Kit because she is the most qualified, accomplished and able candidate. I applaud them. But Republicans are not the only powerful voters in New Canaan. Unaffiliated voters are the second largest block— nearly a third of all registrants.
Why should Kit appeal to independents? Because Kit has demonstrated her commitment and leadership to the whole town with more than 20 years of service to New Canaan. Since 1995 Kit has served the town continually, including eight years on the Board of Finance and eight on Town Council. She has served on eleven boards and commissions touching nearly every facet of town life, serving as President on many.
Her opponent cannot match her service. I’m not sure anyone can. But he can certainly not match the regard in which she is held, demonstrated by the Lifetime Achievement Award for Board Service given to Kit by the New Canaan Community Foundation in 2016.
Kit has made service to New Canaan her career, compensated only by the satisfaction of contributing her many talents, bringing out the best in the people, fostering their efforts in preserving and improving the town we all love. That is the very definition of leadership. Show your independence. Vote for Kit.
Respectfully submitted,
