Letter: First Selectman’s Son Endorses Kit Devereaux for the Job

More

It might seem unusual for the son of an outgoing Republican politician to sit down with the Democrat running to be his father’s successor, but on this recent rainy Columbus Day afternoon that’s exactly what happened. As we sat inside her sunroom, shielded from the weather, I was privy to the story of a remarkable woman, the person I believe most suited for the office of first selectman, Kit Devereaux.

Her story was much more than a list of resume bullets and qualifications. Rather, it was the story about a courageous person who took chances when it counted, forged bonds that have stood the test of time, and daringly explored uncharted paths in life before finding the ones that led her here.

So who is Kit Devereaux exactly? She’s many things. She’s artistic, a mentor, a former financial professional, and a perennial public servant. She has a sincere appreciation for teachers and a deep respect for the law. She’s a luminary with a track record of bringing people together and getting things done. Most importantly, she’s motivated by the core belief that everybody’s opinion, regardless of party, needs to be heard. With an understanding that consensus building is the only way to make great things happen, Kit will work tirelessly to make sure that all of New Canaan’s residents are represented under her administration. Vote character over party this November, vote Kit for First.

  1. However we all know Robby was on the Bernie for President Campaign so he does not support Republicans. A bit of a vendetta in my view. Come on tell the real story this is not a staunch Republican here. It is a Democrat supporting a Democrat. Whose son he is is irrelevant. Fake news!

    • Sir,

We reap what we sow. I suggest a more respectful discourse. Your bullying is unbecoming and positions you as weak. Like our President.
      Marie O’Neill

      • Facts supported by evidentiary matter does not denote bullying or weakness. Look within Marie. Your synopsis is pathetic and laughable.

        • Civility is not dead- or should not be especially for civil servants. My comments were not about what you are stating, rather how you make your argument.
          Thank you,
          Marie

          • Now you believe you are the master of debating techniques. I presume your way or the highway is the proper methodology. Your advice is definitely not needed.

  2. Roy, You talk out of both sides of your mouth, first it should not matter that Moynihan supports Trump but it should matter who a supporter of Kit Devereaux , supported last presidential election. Can’t have it both ways. I have more faith in a Bernie supporter than a Trump supporter.

  3. Jane you are totally incorrect. I do not care who the author of the article supported for President. My point is that the article is purposely presented to falsely lead readers to believe that the author is a devoted Republican supporting Kit Devereaux. My point is that is a misleading and untrue fact. Looking at the facts Kit has been away from the private financial sector for 3 decades and only employed for 8 years. Kevin Moynihan had a legal career that spanned decades with a international financial conglomerate which gives him the important attribute to understand the particulars of the law sufficiently well to deal with the many legal ramifications if decisions made in Town Hall. Consensus building – obviously critically important, but it is only part of making decisions which require in depth knowledge about personnel issues, union contracts, the law, etc which are part and parcel of running a ~ $140 million operation. There will be times when the First Selectman needs to make decisions on the spot and ones on which real life experience provides a foundation. So yes Jane it is not about President Trump or who the First Selectman is supporting. It’s the Candidates CV that matters.

  4. I have known Kevin Moynihan for 6 years, and he is a knowledgeable, civil, smart person, as well as a strategic thinker who cares very much about what is best for our town. I also have know Robby Mallozzi for 15 years, starting back when he was in elementary school with my oldest son. He is an incredibly outstanding citizen who I am confident will do great things in his life. I am only just getting to know Kit, but she seems like a wonderful person as well.

Let’s celebrate the fact that our town has really amazing people with different ideas. We should value the diversity of thought and inclusion of people, and treat each other with respect, regardless of whether we agree with them or not.
