Dear Editor,

Please join me on Wednesday, August 27, when our community will once again gather in New Canaan for the 9th Annual Community Addiction Awareness Vigil. Year after year, this event reminds us that while addiction continues to claim too many lives, recovery is possible, and hope is stronger than despair.

The theme of this year’s Vigil is Sharing Stories Saves Lives. Stories of recovery, loss, and love have the power to open minds, build empathy, and spark change. When people speak honestly about their experiences, they remind others that help is available and that no one is ever alone in their struggle.

Liberation Programs is proud to be part of this event alongside community partners, families, and individuals whose voices need to be heard. We know that only 1 in 10 people who need help for substance use ever receive it. That’s why we’re here, to help the other nine find their pathway to recovery.

This Vigil is the largest of its kind in Connecticut, drawing people from across Fairfield County and beyond. It’s a chance to honor those we’ve lost, lift up those in recovery, and renew our shared commitment to compassion, understanding, and action.

I invite everyone to join us. Come to listen. Come to remember. Come to be part of a community that believes every life is worth saving—and every story matters. Our community is what connects us to each other and out community is what heals.

Sincerely,

John Hamilton

President and CEO, Liberation Programs

  1. I can’t believe your going to put ugly parking machine’s on Elm street. The money your going to make is chicken feed, at best. The people that run this town, need to get there heads out of there butts
