On behalf of the Board of Trustees of the New England Dance Theatre (NEDT), I would like to thank the numerous community businesses who supported our annual Nutcracker Sugar Plum Tea Parties last month. This all-weekend Tea Party event is an essential NEDT fundraiser that has evolved into a holiday must for young families and friends. This year, we had more than 750 people in attendance!
Held at the New Canaan High School Cafeteria, the Sugar Plum Tea Parties transported its guests into a magical land that consumed the senses with bright floral backdrops, table decor worthy of a fairy tale fantasy, satin ribbon and tulle winding the buffet tables, puffs of cotton candy swirled in the air, and artsy crafts for any age.
Before the arrival of our talented ballerinas and their impressive “behind-the-scenes” performances, the food and sweets took center stage! This year, we are incredibly grateful for the generous donations by Club Sandwich, Alina’s Cakes and Cookies, Le Pain Quotidien, Walter Stewart’s Market, Wegmans Food Markets, Whole Foods, Rosie, DiMare Pastry Shop, Stew Leonard’s, Patisserie Salzburg, Tony’s Deli, Forever Sweet Bakery, DeCicco & Sons, Acme Markets, and Shake Shack. We appreciate all the support from these businesses and our community.
Every December, we produce the four Sugar Plum Tea Parties the weekend before our five Nutcracker performances at the New Canaan High School Auditorium. We have partnered with the Norwalk Symphony Orchestra for six years to bring live music to this ballet production. It takes a village to make this holiday tradition happen every year, and we take great pride in contributing to a better today and tomorrow for our young dancers and the local community we work in and support. Thank you New Canaan and surrounding towns!
