One person was taken to Norwalk Hospital with minor injuries following a 2-car accident Wednesday evening on Old Stamford Road.

The New Canaan Ambulance Corps, New Canaan Fire Department and New Canaan Police Department responded at about 6:55 p.m. to the area of 87 Old Stamford Road on a report of a motor vehicle accident with injuries.
A minivan in the northbound lane sustained severe damage to its front driver’s side while a Jeep facing southbound and pulled over about 25 yards away, showed damage to the same area.

It isn’t clear what caused the accident. Police could be seen conducting field sobriety and breath tests on a young woman. One individual was taken into police custody, officials said.
A resident of a nearby house who declined to give her name said she called 9-1-1 after hearing a loud crash—at first she thought it was an appliance in her home—and realized there was an accident out front.

It had been a long time since that stretch of Route 106—a notoriously sharp bend—had a car accident, she said.
Emergency responders directed traffic around the accident and closed Route 106 between Orchard Street and Park Place, while fire officials put down Speedy Dri and a tow truck arrived to tow away the minivan at about 7:20 p.m.
