The New Canaan Chamber of Commerce is re-launching its annual awards for local businesses.

The 2024 New Canaan Chamber Awards will be held 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 25 on the Anderson Terrace at New Canaan Library.

We put some questions to the organization’s executive director, Laura Budd, ahead of the gathering, which features lite bites, appetizers and wine provided by Craftbottlz and Walter Stewart’s Market ($35 tickets here).

Here’s our exchange.

New Canaanite: What went into the Chamber of Commerce’s decision to relaunch the Awards?

Laura Budd: The decision to relaunch the Awards by the Chamber of Commerce was driven by our long-standing tradition of recognizing and honoring local businesses and organizations that significantly contribute to our community. Although the event was postponed due to the challenges posed by COVID-19, the Board of Directors unanimously agreed that it was important to revive this cherished event. The Chamber Awards not only celebrate the achievements of our community members but also align with our mission of Connecting the Community with Commerce in a meaningful way. We believe that by reinstating this event, we can foster stronger connections and inspire continued contributions to our local economy.

What happens on Sept. 25?

We will honor these outstanding businesses on Wednesday, September 25th, from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm on the Anderson Terrace of the New Canaan Library. In the event of inclement weather, we will relocate to the Jim & Dede Bartlett Auditorium. The evening will feature delicious fare provided by Rosie and Chef Luis, with wine generously donated by Craftbottlz and Stewart’s Spirits. This public event will offer a great opportunity for networking while we celebrate and recognize the achievements of our award recipients.

We warmly invite you to join us for the evening! It’s a fantastic opportunity to connect with fellow business owners and become more integrated into the New Canaan business community.

What would you say to local businesspeople, especially Chamber members, who have opened in New Canaan since the onset of the pandemic and never attended the Awards before?

Attending the Awards will not only provide valuable networking opportunities but also allow you to support and celebrate the achievements of local businesses, including those of your own peers and Planet New Canaan. We also encourage residents to attend, as their presence is a wonderful way to show support for all the incredible work being done by our community’s businesses.
