Historian Details Impact of Monroe Doctrine for Men’s Club

January 5 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am

In a talk Friday at the New Canaan Men’s Club, historian Mark Albertson will discuss the foreign policy concerns confronting the United States in the early 1800s that led to the Monroe Doctrine.
To be held in Morrill Hall, St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 111 Oenoke Ridge, the meeting will begin at 10 a.m. with Albertson’s remarks scheduled to start around 10:40 a.m., after the business portion of the meeting.
Albertson will explain how, at the time, owning land was the key to being able to vote and enjoy the benefits of civil rights and human rights. That linkage motivated Americans to acquire land in the western territories, necessitating that the U.S. take steps to prevent European countries from expanding their territorial interests in the New World.
Albertson is the historical research editor for Army Aviation magazine and is historian for the Army Aviation Association. Albertson has written many books including USS Connecticut: Constitution State Battleship, and teaches history at Norwalk Community College.
New Canaan men 55-years old and above interested in joining may email ncmens@ncmens.info.
