From ground-breaking exposes to intimate interviews with intriguing personalities in politics, the arts and international movements, 60 Minutes has, since it began in 1968, clarified and shaped some of the most important moments in America’s last five decades. As executive producer of the show, Jeff Fager is uniquely positioned to bring to light the inside story on how this extraordinary show is produced. Join him for a compelling introduction to his just published narrative, 50 Years of 60 Minutes.
Jeff Fager is in his 14th season as the executive producer of 60 MINUTES, America’s most-watched and honored news program. The former 60 MINUTES producer was chosen to lead the broadcast in 2004 and promptly refocused it on more timely and relevant stories as he
guided it into the digital age. He was tasked in 2011 to continue that mission on a broader scale as the News division’s first chairman, where he successfully revitalized its news platforms, including the remarkable turnaround of CBS THIS MORNING. Jeff has covered the news around the world at each level of his distinguished career. As producer and then senior producer of “THE CBS EVENING NEWS,” he reported on the presidential campaign of 1984; the collapse of the Soviet Union and the fall of Communism in Eastern Europe; the Reagan-Gorbachev Summits; the bombing of Libya in 1986; the death of the Japanese emperor; conflicts in Syria, Lebanon and Jordan; the Palestinian Intifada in 1988; the Iraq-Iran War; the Persian Gulf War; the assassination of Yitzhak Rabin and the War in Bosnia. Named the newscast’s executive producer in 1996, he renewed its emphasis on hard news and added over a million new viewers. Fager was born in Wellesley, Mass. He was graduated from Colgate University in 1977 with a B.A. degree in English.
