Men’s Club speaker to track evolution of TV news

With his 40-year background as an editor and producer at WABC’s Eyewitness News, Mike Bencivenga will describe how television news has evolved during the past 40 years at the New Canaan Men’s Club meeting March 14 in St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 111 Oenoke Ridge.
In television news, Bencivenga has won three Emmy Awards and the Edward R. Murrow prize for television news, an award named for the legendary CBS news reporter who reported from London rooftops during World War II. Aside from Bencivenga’s career in television news, he has also garnered an extensive list of credits writing and directing television and film projects.
The Men’s Club meeting will begin at 10 a.m. with Bencivenga speaking about the evolution of television news beginning at approximately 10:40 a.m.
Bencivenga began his theater career writing sketch comedy and performing improv shows around the country. As a writer, his play “Billy & Ray,” about how Hollywood director Billy Wilder and mystery writer Raymond Chandler wrote the screenplay for the great film noir movie, “Double Indemnity,” won the Keith Hedrick Prize as the best play in New York and ran to sold-out shows in Los Angeles and New York.
