Men’s Club to Hear Noted Sportscaster

February 9 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am

Veteran radio and television sportscaster Bob Heussler, known for his coverage and analysis of sports over 30 years on WFAN, will speak to the New Canaan Men’s Club Friday, Feb. 9, in a talk, “Ranking the Great Sportscasters, Golden Age to the Digital Age.”
In his remarks, Heussler will explain how sportscasters create a bond with fans and their teams. Whether it’s Johnny Most screaming on radio, “Havlicek stole the ball,” for a Boston Celtics championship win, or John Sterling’s triumphant, “The Yankees win,” announcing another New York win, Huessler will explain how and why those moments became memorable for sports fans.
The meeting will begin at 10 a.m. in Morrill Hall at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church with Heussler’s comments expected to begin around 10:40 a.m.
He remains at WFAN on a part-time basis and recently completed his 35th season covering the Fairfield University’s men’s basketball team. In addition, Heussler was the radio and television play-by-play announcer for the WNBA’s Connecticut Sun for 17 years, a position he held since the town’s inaugural season.
Working as a sportscaster for more than 35 years overall in both New York and Connecticut, Heussler will revisit some of the great calls and rank the most well-known names in the business.
The Men’s Club has openings for men 55-years old and above. For information about joining, email ncmens@ncmens.club.
