Music@ New Canaan Library welcomes Fairfield University professor Brian Q Torff, presenting a talk and visual program on music that reflects the American experience. Join the conversation on Thursday, February 8 at 6:30 p.m. in the Adrian Lamb Room. Please register online at newcanaanlibrary.org.

Brian Torff will present a musical playlist and PowerPoint presentation of 25 songs that reflect, and have shaped, American culture over the years. From the Ragtime of Scott Joplin to the soul of James Brown, the African- American contribution to American culture has been nothing short of staggering in its importance. Torff will analyze musical works, connecting the songs to the challenges of a diverse and evolving nation.
Torff is a renowned bassist and composer, and is currently Music Program Director at Fairfield University. He is a featured bass soloist, leading his own trio, and is the musical director for the Django Reinhardt New York Festival, which has appeared at Lincoln Center, the Kennedy Center, and Birdland in New York City.
