Long-time resident George Brakeley will take members of the New Canaan Men’s Club Friday, on a largely anecdotal and historical journey of the New Canaan Field Club in remarks at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 111 Oenoke Ridge.
Now a resident of Manchester, VT, Brakeley’s talk will begin around 10:40 a.m., following the business portion of the meeting beginning at 10 a.m.
The Field Club, founded in 1957, primarily to provide racquet sports, such as tennis and paddle ball, also had a pool at its inception. Since then, the club on Smith Ridge Road, has expanded its offerings to offer pickleball, a range of aquatics, including competitive diving, and youth camps.
Brakeley was a Men’s Club member for about 15 years, during which time, he ran the humorist program, and will return in that role for the June 23 meeting. As a town resident, he was active in Staying Put in New Canaan, and the Field Club.
