Although the United States makes up only 4.6% of the world’s population, it has become the world’s largest jailer, housing 22.4% of the world’s inmates. New Canaan Library will host a discussion on this societal issue, Justice Imperative: Criminal Justice Reform in Connecticut, presented by attorney and author Brian Moran and contributing writer Bill Fox. Moran is the principal author of the book The Justice Imperative: How Hyper-Incarceration Has Hijacked the American Dream. The event takes place on Thursday, May 18 at 6:30 p.m. in the Adrian Lamb Room. Please register online at newcanaanlibrary.org
Moran and Fox will present a thought provoking discussion on the topic of hyper incarceration, and its implications for Connecticut. They will cover both the direct and indirect costs and criminal justice policy and reforms, with a focus on how employment and hiring practices can reduce recidivism and help former convicts readjust to life after prison.
Brian Moran, a partner at Robinson & Cole in Stamford, is the principal author of the book The Justice Imperative: How Hyper-Incarceration Has Hijacked the American Dream. He is the founder of The Success Foundation, a non-profit that has run summer study programs on college campuses for low-income ninth graders with college potential.
Bill Fox is the Director of the Inner City Foundation for Charity & Education, President of CONARD Corporation, and a member of the Order of Malta. He is a contributing writer for The Justice Imperative.
