Spring Tonics and More with Herbal Healing Workshop, Presented at New Canaan Library

Tuesday, March, 12, 2019 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Free

Spring is coming and that presents the perfect opportunity to rejuvenate and start fresh in body and mind. New Canaan Library is pleased to host a workshop presented by herbalist Ehris Urban and historian Velya Jancz-Urban on ways to use wild greens and herbs for healthy tonics. The event takes place on Tuesday, March 12 at 6:30 p.m. in the Curtis Gallery. Please register, online at newcanaanlibrary.org.

This unique workshop will offer a look at history as well as teach participants how to concoct, among other things, a “Great-Granny McWilliams’ Spring Tonic,” featuring the wild edibles of spring. Hundreds of years ago, New England colonists looked forward to foraging for wild greens that appeared under melting snow during the first days of spring. Fresh greens were not only healthy, but also a welcome treat after a winter of pickled, salted, and dried foods. Participants will also get to sample a variety of tonic recipes.

Presenters Ehris Urban (herbalist, daughter) and Velya Jancz-Urban (historian, mother) believe healing comes from nature, history, and within. They offer unique holistic/historic workshops, presentations, and events at a variety of venues, as well as at their colonial home. From its “dawn of America” history, dairy farm families, and documented paranormal activity, the 1770 Grounded Goodwife Farmhouse is filled with the stories of the women, men, and children who have called it home.
